SAFTM Pilot Trailer

Heron Innovators offers a complete trailer-mounted SAF™ system for on-site wastewater treatment pilot testing or extended use for flows up to 200 gpm.

The 40-ft. long gooseneck trailer contains the following equipment:

  • A 7-1/2 Hp self-priming non-clog wastewater feed pump with variable frequency drive.
  • A 4" magnetic flow meter at the pump discharge, with signal output for flow pacing.
  • An 1,800-gallon stainless steel dual-compartment conditioning tank with two turbine agitators.  The first compartment, 1,200 gallons, is sized and agitated for coagulant and pH adjustment chemical reaction, and the second compartment, 600 gallons, is sized and agitated for flocculation.  A polymer addition port is provided in this compartment.
  • A pH monitor / analyzer / controller for acid and caustic addition.
  • A stainless steel Model  CF125 ClearFloater™ Flotation Tank with variable speed flocculation agitator and variable speed chain and flight skimmer.  The clarified underflow drains to the customer's point of disposal.
  • A Model F50 Suspended Air® Emulsion Generator with frothing agent day tank and metering pump.
  • A 2" peristaltic hose pump for float solids pumping to the customer's point of disposal.
  • A polymer day tank, polymer metering pump, and polymer dilution and activation system.
  • Coagulant, acid, and caustic metering pumps.
  • Control panels with timing and speed controls.

PILOT RUNS COMPLETED (partial list):

  • Algae removal from municipal wastewater treatment pond, Graton CSD, California.  Achieved consistent turbidity less than 9 NTU, and thickened the algae solids to greater than 3.5%.
  • Thickening digested sludge at Synagro Biosolids Recycling Facility, Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.  Achieved solids loading rates in excess of 40 lb/hr/sq. ft. (960 lb/day/sq. ft.) and thickened the sludge from 1.5 - 2.0% to 3.5 - 5.0%.  Achieved greater than 20% polymer savings.
  • Two trailers in parallel, removing algae from a municipal wastewater treatment pond for 2 months at a rate of 500 gpm.  Achieved low-turbidity effluent and thickened algae suitable for air drying.
  • Treatment of dairy processing plant wastewater, removing high butterfat content solids and reducing salt content.
